My name is Amanda Renée and I’m an academic by profession, fashionista by passion, and obsessive time manager by necessity. I’m currently going into the fifth year of my doctoral work in English and specialize in African and Caribbean literature, film, and theory. I’m super interested in representations of gender violence in Francophone African & Caribbean literature and film, debates on African philosophy, and “Afrofuturist” (science fiction/SF) works by black authors and filmmakers.

I love all things minimalist and French.

My daughter, Inés Elodie, is a beautiful little bundle of energy who challenges me to develop equal parts patience, kindness, and organization.

Académique Chic is my attempt to find a manageable balance between the rigorous pace of academic life, my obsession with all things fashion-related, and motherhood!

Oh, and I change my hair style and color a lot. So if you see a redhead on one page and a black-haired pixie chick on another they’re all me. I promise.
